Migrants are made easy targets. After seeing the incidents which took place in Maharashtra, Assam and In Delhi. There are couple of questions which we should ask ourselves, Is it because they are soft corners of the society who can be attacked easily for political or personal reasons. Violence in Maharashtra had gone to such an extent that the thousands of migrants flee back to their native places. In Assam attack on migrants was more brutal almost 150 migrants have been killed over last two years. There are also attacks on bangaldeshi workers in Delhi.
Attack on migrants is mainly because of political, personal and security reasons. In Maharashtra, violence was erupted because of political reasons. Local political party MNS and other parties attacked migrants for grabbing jobs of local residents. But the reason was not that it was crystal clear that they wanted to show their political power. In Assam the attack was for personal reasons, because local residents believe that migration of people from neighboring states is threat to their jobs. In Delhi the attack on migrants is mainly because of security reasons, police attack them for any problems in the city as they are soft corners of the society.
Whenever there is increase in economic growth it automatically attracts skilled work force, when there is shortage of skilled people in that area it attracts people from other areas this leads to migration of people. In Mumbai which is the major city in the west and also because of its economic growth attracts lot of people from surrounding areas to the city to build their dreams. People from rural areas of Bihar are attracted to the city because there are lot of employment opportunities generated in construction and other industries.
As Delhi is hosting Common Wealth Games in 2010, and there is shortage of workers. It automatically attracted people from other areas and in this case it attracted people from Bangladesh. Migrants play a very important role in the economic growth of the country.
Migration management is not effective in our country. It encourages people with white collar and discourages poor and marginal people. Both of them should be treated equally. Individuals, millionaires and billionaires play a vital role in protecting migrants. Migrants are not the problem, but they are part of the solution.
